Like you, we are a welcoming community of people who believe in learning *about* the world by being *in* the world. Our delicate and unique ecosystem is the perfect place to foster the growth of future conservationists and changemakers.
We offer child-led, play-based and Montessori-inspired educare for ages 3-7 on-site in our homey resource center.
Daily excursions for ages 7 and up make use of our vast array of local natural and cultural resources, as well as the kindness and generosity of local trades and craftspeople who share their skills, talents and spaces.
The Little Yellow House is an established resource center and homebase for our programming and is founded on the principles of clean food, clear boundaries, respectful communication, and less stuff.
We partner with local providers to offer you below-market lodging and transportation, as well as academic tutoring within your curriculum.
The season for worldschooling at The Shoals Center is Locals’ Summer: when tourists have returned to their homes, the ocean is still 80F (26C) and there’s 12 hours of sunlight each day, giving you plenty of time to enjoy it all!

The Shoals Center's Worldschooling Hub was founded by professional parenting coach Denise Clark Priest. Denise lives her life and leads her own family according to the principles on which her coaching business was founded: clean food, clear boundaries, respectful communication, and less stuff. After serving as a local natural parenting mentor for more than a decade, Denise is excited to share the treasures of her homeland with families from around the globe. Well-versed in various alternative education pedagogues, Denise most closely aligns with the teachings of Andrew Maslow who asserted that when people are well-fed, well-rested, and well-loved, they are able to be their best selves, and their quest for knowledge can not be squelched. Come live like a local in beautiful southeast North Carolina, if only for a short visit.
